Pam Coats
Producer
Pam Coats is a producer at Sony Pictures Animation, currently working on an upcoming unannounced theatrical feature.
A 30-year veteran of the animation industry with a Masters of Fine Arts degree in theater, Coats spent the first part of her career with Walt Disney Studios. Her leadership style and strong sense of what it takes to tell a great story were apparent early on when in less than four years she moved from production assistant to producer. She produced the short films “Runaway Brain” and “Trail Mix-Up” and the award-winning film “Mulan.”
Fresh off the success of “Mulan,” Coats was asked to head up Disney’s creative development team as executive vice president. In this role, she was responsible for identifying and guiding all key creative talent and projects. The films released under her watch include “Lilo and Stitch,” “Treasure Planet,” “Brother Bear,” “Destino,” “Lorenzo,” “Dinosaur,” “Fantasia 2000,” “The Emperor’s New Groove,” “Home on the Range,” “Chicken Little” and “Meet the Robinsons.”
She left Disney to work as a creative consultant on several projects, including a year-long partnership with Miramax on “Gnomeo and Juliet.”
She became head of creative affairs for Digital Domain Media Group’s Tradition Studios in 2011, where she had multiple films in development and preproduction prior to the closure of the studio.
Most recently, she produced “SCOOB!” for Warner Animation Group and “Thelma the Unicorn” for Netflix.
