David Schulenburg

Producer

David Schulenburg is currently co-producing Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming original animated sports comedy “GOAT” from producer Stephen Curry's Unanimous Media. Most recently, Schulenburg served as a producer and LENS program creator of “The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” short film.

“The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” was developed and produced in the inaugural year of Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks’ Leading and Empowering New Storytellers (LENS) program, a 9-month leadership training program that provides candidates from underrepresented groups with an opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience in animation. The final deliverable of the program is an all-original short film, set in the existing world of a feature produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks.

Previously, Schulenburg produced the short film “Caught in a Ham” for the home entertainment release of the Academy Award®-nominated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

Schulenburg's custom animation work includes commercials, short films, and social media pieces used to promote Sony Pictures Animation’s films. He has been with Sony since 2016, and his credits include “The Emoji Movie,” “The Star,” “Hotel Transylvania 3,” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Prior to joining Sony Animation, Schulenburg worked in a similar capacity at Blue Sky Studios/20th Century Fox Animation, producing content for “Epic,” “Rio 2,” “The Peanuts Movie,” and “Ice Age: Collision Course.”

Schulenburg previously served as the head of production at the New York-based commercial production studio 1stAveMachine. He spent many years prior working as a commercial producer in New York City focusing on visual effects, animation, brand identity, and motion graphics. He studied as a BFA Theatre major with a concentration in Direction at the University of Montevallo, before earning his degree in Entertainment and Media Studies from the University of Georgia.
