Imageworks Projects Recognized with Oscar® Nominations
CULVER CITY, CA – January 23, 2007 – Sony Pictures Imageworks, renowned for its state-of-the-art visual effects and character animation services, is proud to announce that it is the only company to have projects nominated for an Academy Award® in both the visual effects and animated feature categories. Imageworks is privileged to have participated in the successful motion pictures SUPERMAN RETURNS and MONSTER HOUSE.
Senior Visual Effects Supervisor Richard Hoover has received an Academy Award® nomination for Achievement in Visual Effects in a Motion Picture for SUPERMAN RETURNS. Mr. Hoover is honored by the nomination alongside his fellow visual effects supervisors Mark Stetson, Neil Corbould and Jon Thum.
Sony Pictures Imageworks was engaged because of its expertise in the highly specialized work of creating photo-real CG characters and environments. The company rose to the exciting challenge by harnessing its unique combination of artistry, talent, pioneering digital production and top quality animation.
Directed by Bryan Singer, SUPERMAN RETURNS was released on June 30, 2006, by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. Among its many other achievements in the movie, Imageworks created the entire city of Metropolis along with a digital superhero that is both entertaining and awe-inspiring.
Sony Pictures Imageworks also congratulates MONSTER HOUSE, directed by Gil Kenan for Columbia Pictures, on its Academy Award® nomination for best Animated Feature.
Columbia Pictures' MONSTER HOUSE, directed by Gil Kenan, relied on a specially-refined version of Imageworks motion-capture process, Imagemotion. This provided the filmmakers a creative instrument with which they could record the live-action performances in richly detailed data upon which the animation is then based. It also enabled them to realize the amazing central character of the living, breathing house itself.
Executive produced by Robert Zemekis and Steven Spielberg, MONSTER HOUSE was released on July 21, 2006, by Columbia Pictures, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company that is part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group.
Sony Pictures Imageworks recently completed work on GHOST RIDER for director Mark Steven Johnson and currently is in production on such projects as SPIDER-MAN 3, SURF'S UP and BEOWULF.
