Artist Manager

The SPA Artist Manager, reporting into the EVP of Physical Production is responsible and accountable for the management of a group or category of digital artists. Management duties include but are not limited to ensuring professional development for the artist; assessing skills and creating development plans (ie, training in other skills, helping to assign lead roles, etc); collaborates with productions to crew artists to shows or projects, balancing the needs of the production with the professional development needs of the artists; recommends compensation increases, promotions, contract terms and talent retention; maintains constant interaction with production, artists, other artist-managers, recruiting and training. Updates information and data into the Artist Management Data Base.


  • Creates a "nurturing" environment that fosters the development of employees and overall well-being of the studio culture.
  • Plans, organizes and facilitates studio wide opportunities such as speakers, screenings, art shows that provide opportunities for development and engagement.
  • Understand individual artist skills and interests. Collaborate with production and management to assign employees to projects. Assignments should benefit the project and provide individual growth opportunities and challenges.
  • Assess, design and execute on-going learning and development programs for the animation population that continue to grow the organization’s creative and strategic vision.
  • Develop group, as well as individual training programs and opportunities to enhance the capabilities of creative employees and the organization's overall level of professional skills.
  • Assists recruiting with festivals, events and fairs to coordinate appearance by SPA talent and present SPA as a studio with growth potential.
  • Ensures creative employees receive internal communications.
  • Provides SPA studio tours to schools and interest groups.
  • Oversees internship and trainee program.
  • Assigning mentors and weekly follow-up with each pair.

  • Requirements:

  • 7 or more years experience in the animation industry with 2 or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with front end animation pipeline required.
  • Working knowledge of market pricing for an animation organization (union and production population).
  • Strong animation business and budget acumen required.
  • Highly organized, resourceful and dependable with excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Trustworthy and ability to maintain a high level of discretion.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic growing business environment.
  • Interest in artist and facility well being
  • Computer and technology literate – familiarity with Mac/PC operating systems, Word, Excel and Gmail.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
