Becky Chaires played a key role in the formation of Sony Pictures Animation and continues to drive the company's success in her current role as Sr. Vice President of Marketing. While in this position, Becky has worked on "Open Season," "Surf's Up," "Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs 1 & 2," "The Smurfs 1 & 2," "The Star," "The Emoji Movie," "Smurfs: The Lost Village," and "Hotel Transylvania 1, 2 and 3." Chaires most recently led the studio's marketing efforts on Academy Award® winner "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," now available on Digital, Blu-ray & DVD.
Before devoting her attention to Sony Pictures Animation, Becky served as marketing consultant to Sony Pictures Entertainment on "Spider-Man 2." Her responsibilities included liaising between the filmmakers – director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad – and all Sony Pictures marketing divisions, overseeing filmmaker approvals for worldwide consumer products' licensees and retailers, global promotional partners, national and international publicity, worldwide home video and other related activities.
Becky joined Sony Pictures Entertainment from DreamWorks International Home Video, where she was the London-based director of international publicity campaigns for movies like the worldwide hit "Shrek" and "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron." Her responsibilities encompassed all aspects of managing the publicity campaign for the studio's sell-through releases.
Previously Becky was one of the first members DreamWorks Publicity department, rising to senior broadcast publicist. While there, she hired and supervised unit publicists for "Amistad," "Saving Private Ryan," "American Beauty," "Galaxy Quest," "Gladiator," "What Lies Beneath," "Almost Famous" and many other movies. Often working directly with talent, she also developed and launched long-range publicity and marketing campaigns, including addressing specialty markets and producing live action electronic press kits and video news releases.
Becky began her career as a production assistant at Amblin Entertainment, which led to her serving on "Jurassic Park" as assistant to associate producer Lata Ryan and subsequently becoming executive assistant to head of marketing Marvin Levy. In that position, she coordinated television and print interviews for Steven Spielberg and participated in publicity campaigns for films including "Schindler's List" and "Twister."
